::Great hostel. Very very friendly and helpful staff (Brasilian and international) and other guests were all OK. Great location, 10 minutes from the beach and pretty safe both in the hostel and in the area. The staff were really nice and helpful on arrival until departure.

::The room was horrible, the bed needs throwing away. The walls in the room and the bathroom were dirty and when it rained the walls leaked.. the air conditioning didn't work as the rain was also coming through the plug socket. The air conditioning unit was hung outside the door so you smashed you head on it every time you came out of the room. Overall: expensive and gross. Positive: the communal area was a good place to meet people and it's a short walk from Copacabana beach.

::I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Rio Backpackers. The staff was friendly and conducted themselves as if you were family staying at their house. It was a short walk to the beach and the subway. In terms of the quality of the rooms/bathrooms/common area, you kinda get what you pay for. It wasn't a top quality hostel. Overall it is in a good location and you have a chance to meet good ppl.

::Hostel is of average quality. The rooms are good, the staff is friendly and the shared room+balcony at the top floor is great. However, it clearly lacks hygiene as compared to other hostels in the area. Together with the fact that you have to walk quite uphill to get to the hostel, there are in my opinion better hostels available in the area. All together, if the hygiene improves it is a good value for money hostel.
